California School Dashboard is Live
December 17, 2019

Dear MUSD Families,

The 2019 California School Dashboard is now available. Visit the site to see the Spring 2019 MUSD data on SBAC scores, school attendance, and suspensions. The Dashboard is part of California’s school accountability and support framework.
In the past, accountability relied solely on test scores. But one test taken on one particular day doesn’t provide a complete picture of all the ways schools are helping students succeed. The Dashboard provides information on several aspects of student performance, which gives a more complete picture of a school’s progress. The Dashboard also reports on how schools are making progress over time.
MUSD district leaders, principals, and teachers are implementing the plans developed after reviewing assessment, suspension, and attendance data from last year to ensure continuous improvement. For example, you may notice increased attention to math this year.  Although the dashboard shows our District’s indicator in math is a level “Yellow,” our students performed slightly better in May of 2019 on the Math assessment than in 2018.  However, the growth was not large enough to push our status to “Green.”  With the emphasis on continual improvement, professional development, intervention planning, and attention to math instruction, we have more opportunities for growth in Math.
MUSD utilizes the Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) process to make plans for improvement. The LCAP is our school district’s blueprint for setting goals, reviewing data and aligning resources to support struggling students.  The request from last year was to increase counselors. The LCAP for MUSD increased the number of counselors to one at each elementary school and three at each middle school as well as the purchase and implementation of 2nd Step, a Social-Emotional Curriculum taught by classroom teachers to increase student engagement in school and empathy for each other.
While our schools are making progress in many key areas, there is always more work to do. Meeting goals will take a united effort. The MUSD Team looks forward to working with our families to ensure success for every student.
